Laura’s House is a non-profit organization that has been dedicated to ending the silence of domestic violence since 1994. Laura’s House provides unduplicated domestic violence-related services to the 915,000 residents of Orange County, California and beyond. Over the past eighteen years, Laura’s House has provided shelter and support services to more than 3,488 battered women and children and counseling, life skills education and legal assistance to over 40,305 persons.
Laura’s House hosts a legal clinic, in collaboration with the Orange County Bar Association, once a month where clients have an opportunity to speak to an attorney. Courtney has volunteered countless hours at this legal clinic for the past three years providing support and education to victims of domestic violence who are seeking legal services at Laura’s House. Courtney assists clients with divorce, child custody and most importantly domestic violence restraining orders.
During the Annual Laura’s House Gala on October 4, 2014, wherein Laura’s House was celebrating 20 years of service to the community, Courtney Winzeler was honored for her extraordinary volunteer work at the legal clinic as follows:
“Courtney is one of our longest standing legal clinic attorney volunteers, spending hours providing legal counsel to Laura’s House clients in the evening after working a full day at her firm. Despite living and working very far from our Counseling and Resource Center, Courtney rarely misses a clinic and has become a leader within our legal clinic program. She is someone upon whom Laura’s House legal staff, and our clients, can rely upon. On behalf of our Legal Department and all of the clients you serve, we thank you!”
